Destination Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo

Our destination is appropriate for families, singles, couples, honeymooners, old timers... and specially for YOU!. Once you discovered Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, you will return... and return...

Zihuatanejo means "place of woman" in Nahuatl. Ixtapa is means "the white place" in the same language.

Many people fell in love with Ixtapa... we are sure you will be the next one!!!

Location:

Our beautiful tourist destination is part of well known Guerrero's Sun Triangle - Ixtapa, Acapulco and Taxco.

Attractions:

Unlike any other Mexican beach resort destination, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo comprises two entirely different places with distinct lifestyles. In Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo you will get TWO DESTINATIONS for the price of one.

Zihuatanejo is a small town, which nowadays still conserves the typical physiognomy and the friendly atmosphere of the old fishing village with that True Mexican Flavor.

There are many cozy restaurants, boutiques, jewelry stores, bars, hotels (from one to five stars), tourist markets, and much more. You won't see any tall buildings (four stories maximum) because they are not permitted by a City Law (the purpose is to conserve the village look).

Every year the picturesque and sheltered Zihuatanejo bay, only 1.8 miles wide, is visited by more than 80 Pleasure Cruise Ships as by sailboats and private yachts from many nations.

The downtown area known as El Centro is great for walking and browsing, as it is the Paseo del Pescador a brick-paved beachfront promenade along Playa La Madera and Playa Principal beaches up to the Pier.

Zihuatanejo is also famous for its great fishing, diving and snorkeling, and its is a place where you can practice most water sports.

Ixtapa is a modern world-class resort that was created from the ground-up beginning in 1968 by Fonatur (National Tourism Development Fund, a federal bureau that is in charge of developing and urbanizing new tourist destinations).

Ixtapa has all-modern constructions, vast and well kept gardens and a large residential area that is located away from the hotel zone. Its bay is wide and it is one of the places to admire a spectacular sunset.

In Ixtapa you'll find many restaurants, bars, boutiques, shops, grocery markets, drug stores, etc. On the other side of the street from the malls are the luxurious beachfront hotels with their restaurants and bars.

Ixtapa has many high-rise hotels of four and five stars; most hotels are of well known international and national chains. The hotels strip is about 2 miles long and the Ixtapa beach is called El Palmar. Here, you can partake on all the water sports, including surfing.

At the end of the main road, you'll find La Marina de Ixtapa with capacity for more than 100 yachts, a golf course, luxury condominiums and a promenade with charming restaurants overlooking the area.

Information:

Besides the progress and the inevitable and continuous modernization of the city, Zihuatanejo has been able to retain its original charm, its traditions, its friendliness and those sincere smiles from our people; no many tourist places can say that!!!

Our rainy season goes from late June through September or sometimes to middle October with precipitation usually in the evenings or nights, which still gives you many sunny hours per day to spend on the beach and outdoors. At this time of the year the countryside and the mountains turn brilliantly green with multicolored blossoms of trees and flowers. A few months after the rainy season vegetation turns gradually brown until the rainy season begins again.

We enjoy a semi-tropical climate year around with an average of 300 sunny days a year and temperatures ranging from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius (73-93 Fahrenheit.). In Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, casual and beachwear clothing is recommended for year round.

A light sweater for nights is recommended if planning to dine outside near the beach from November to April. After sundown the wind-chill factor will go down due to the sea breeze.
